Russia chases US spy plane

Russia and the United States, two of the world’s most powerful nations, have been embroiled in a Cold War for weeks. The Biden administration expelled 10 Russian diplomats last Thursday. Moscow did not hesitate to respond. They also ordered the same number of US diplomats to leave Russia.

Meanwhile, Russia has chased a US spy plane over the Pacific. The U.S. plane was forced to leave the area in a hurry.

Russia said in a statement that its MiG-31 fighter jet had shot down a US RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft over the Pacific Ocean.
Russian aircraft intercepted the plane as it approached Russian airspace. The U.S. spy plane chased the Russian plane and fled the area.

Russia’s foreign ministry said on Friday its radar had intercepted a U.S. plane in the skies off the coast of Kamchatka in the Pacific Ocean. However, the US plane did not violate Russian airspace.

A statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. military base. The MiG-31 returned safely after the U.S. plane left the Russian border area.
