Voting begins in 12th parliamentary election 2024

In the elections, 90 candidates are female, and 79 are from ethnic minorities and other groups.

Around 8 lakh law enforcement personnel, including 182,091 police officers and Rapid Action Battalion members (RAB), 1,155 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 505,788 Ansar, VDP, and Coast Guard members, have been assigned the task of ensuring security at the elections.

On Wednesday, members of the armed services were deployed to help the local civil administration conduct the general elections in a fair, peaceful, and free manner.

The Army is performing its duties in 62 districts, while the Navy has been deployed to two coastal districts – Bhola and Barguna – and 19 upazilas.

The Air Force also assists in remote areas of the country with helicopters.

The deployment of members of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies will continue until January 10 in order to maintain law and security before, during, and after election day.

Vote at the polling stations: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has today asked the people to vote at the polling stations.

Three minutes after the 12th Parliamentary Election began, the Awami League president spoke after she cast her ballot in Dhaka’s City College.

Hasina claimed that her government had created an atmosphere conducive to voting despite all the “obstacles” and “anarchy” created by BNP or Jamaat.

We will form a government with the mandate of the people, and “Boat” will win. “We have the confidence of the people.”

Hasina was accompanied by her daughter Saima at the polls. She voted at 8:03 am.

I don’t have any information about the voter turnout: CEC.

The Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal refused to comment on the voter turnout when he spoke to journalists today outside a voting center in Dhaka’s Shantinagar.

After voting at around 8:30 am, he spoke to the media.

The CEC, however, said that he felt good about the voting beginning in the country.

He said, “I’ll ask you to show the transparency in voting.”

When asked about the low voter turnout, CEC replied, “I do not know.” I am responsible for arranging voting but will not comment on voter turnout at this time.

‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry is dead at 54

Matthew Perry, best known for his role on the TV series ‘Friends,’ was found dead in his hot tub Saturday at his Los Angeles home, according to law enforcement sources. Authorities found him unresponsive after receiving a call around 4 p.m. Sources who chose to remain anonymous due to an ongoing investigation did not reveal the cause of death. However, there was no evidence of foul play. The Times did not receive a response from Perry’s representative.

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the circumstances of his death. Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death later.
Perry was born in 1969 to John Bennett Perry, an actor, and Suzanne Marie Langford (a former press secretary for Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau). His parents split when he turned one. He spent his childhood growing up between Montreal, Canada, and Los Angeles, California.

Perry began his career as a child actress, making guest appearances in shows such as ‘Charles in Charge,’ ‘Beverly Hills 90210’, and in the film ‘A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,’ starring River Phoenix, in the 1980s and 1990s.

His breakthrough came in the form of the iconic TV show ‘Friends,’ originally called ‘Friends Like Us.’ The sitcom premiered in 1994 on NBC and followed six New Yorkers who were navigating adulthood. Perry and his co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox were overnight stars after the show became a huge success. The show was a huge success in 1996. It attracted more than 50 million viewers.

Perry’s dry humor and catchphrases became famous in his role as Chandler Bing. He was the sarcastic flatmate of Joey Tribbiani and then the love interest for Monica Geller. In 1997, Perry also made his film debut alongside Julia Roberts and Salma Hayek.

Perry’s struggle with alcoholism and opioid addiction was well documented in his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible Thing”, published in 2022. Perry’s battle with addiction resulted in multiple rehab stints and numerous health issues. One of these was a potentially life-threatening rupture of the colon in 2018.

Perry’s life was also marked by intense pressure from performing live in front of an audience at the “Friends” show. He said that he did not believe fame would bring him happiness.
Perry acknowledged that he had relapsed many times. However, despite this, he continued to appear in American television series such as ‘Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip’ and “Go On.” Perry made guest appearances in acclaimed series such as “The West Wing” and “The Good Wife.” Perry has found comfort in writing, playing pickleball, and friendships since his near-death encounter in 2018.

Perry, despite his success as a best-selling author and actor, said in April that his legacy wasn’t solely based upon his work. Perry said that he wanted to be remembered as someone who loved well, lived well, and helped others. Meeting me was not a negative experience but a positive one.

Dangerous Neighborhoods in Vancouver: Behind the Beauty

Vancouver’s stunning cityscape often contrasts with rugged mountains and tranquil water, easily painting the picture of a city without imperfections.

Although Vancouver’s winter landscape is captivating, particularly when the city is transformed into a short winter dreamland, you must be aware of the neighborhoods you visit, particularly during the colder seasons.

However, like all urban destinations, it conceals problems underneath its stunning façade. Today, as an experienced journalist and avid traveler worldwide, I’m diving into the underbelly of Vancouver to discover the 10 neighborhoods tagged as the “most dangerous” in 2023.

While Vancouver has its unique issues, it’s fascinating to observe how the different provinces of Canada provide a variety of living experiences. Some are even hailed as the best locations to live and work.

Most Unsafe Places

1. Downtown Eastside:

Being someone who’s traveled all over the world, the contrast between the city of Vancouver is remarkable. Downtown Eastside, once a center for art and culture, is now facing various problems.

Drug Epidemic

Based on the Vancouver Police Department and CBCDowntown Eastside has seen an increase in drug-related crimes. The streets of this area bear evidence of the current opioid problem, with overdoses being a common occurrence.

  • Fentanyl The potent substance is the primary suspect in numerous overdose instances. It’s easy to obtain, and the repercussions of its use can be catastrophic.
  • Needle Exchange Programs To tackle the addiction crisis, the city has introduced needle exchange programs. The goal of these programs is to limit the spread of disease and offer a safer atmosphere for those who are addicted.

Increase in Property Crimes

Based on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the crimes committed against property in the Downtown Eastside have increased. From burglaries in cars to shoplifting of business and residential properties, the residents are always vigilant.

  • Local business owner Melissa Green experienced five burglaries in two months. Melissa Green says, “It’s not about the financial loss anymore. It’s about feeling safe in your own home.”

    2. Marpole:

An excursion to Marpole shows a dazzling mix of both old and modern, but underneath its changing façade are serious security issues.

    Residential Break-ins

According to City News Vancouver, Marpole has seen an increase in home burglaries. Families are installing security systems, indicating an overall feeling of anxiety.

    5. Grandview-Woodland:

The town is in the heart of downtown; Grandview Woodland is an oasis of peace and bustling commercial activity. But some problems taint its image.

Beaches that are crowded, particularly in the summer months, have led to disturbances in public. According to Vancouver Coastal Health, the city has seen increased alcohol-related events and beach-related altercations.

    Illegal Vending

The rush of tourists often draws sellers who need to be legal.

    9. Renfrew-Collingwood:

Renfrew-Collingwood is a unique blend of historical appeal and urban living, showcasing Vancouver’s variety. However, recent changes have cast shadows on its beautiful streets.

    Vandalism at Heritage Sites

    About the Maltipoo

Maltipoo puppie is one of the most popular designer varieties. This may sound amazing, but these puppies are relatively new to the dog world. These were first developed in the 1990s, so the lineage is still relatively fresh.

This breed is not officially recognized by the American Kennel Club. But it does not make them less wanted!

One of the main reasons these dogs are so popular is that they were bred primarily to be hypoallergenic. If you are familiar with parent breeds, you will know that poodles have attractive fur. Unlike other dogs that shed a lot of hair and dandruff, poodles release very few allergens into the air.

Maltipoo puppie adopts that feature. They have a single layer of slightly curly hair. Although there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog, the Maltipoo puppie moves quite close.

They are a great choice for allergy sufferers who want to enjoy the company of dogs without sneezing!

In terms of size, the Maltipoo puppie is not very large. The size of their adults ultimately depends on the size of the parent’s poodle. Most malts weigh less than 9 pounds, but poodles can weigh up to 70 pounds! These genetics combine to form a Maltipoo puppie that weighs less than 20 pounds.

If bred from a toy poodle, they can be as small as 5 pounds when fully grown!

Who Will Succeed in the Metaverse First | Meta or Microsoft

The biggest tech giants are fighting to establish themselves as leaders in Metaverse. Find out the different methods that Meta and Microsoft are adopting.

Innovative barriers are happening at a rapid pace, and it is expected that the line between real life and virtual reality (VR) will become even more blurred in the very distant future. We’re going through a significant technological transformation, with familiar concepts like augmented reality (AR), VR, artificial intelligence (AI) and the next iteration of the Internet – Web 3.0 – taking our lives in a way that has never been seen before.

Although a number of crypto-native firms have been working on various components of Metavers over the past few years, tech giants such as Meta, formerly known as Facebook, and Microsoft have spent significant amounts of time working on this new future. We are working to see who will realize Metaverse’s vision and succeed with it first.

    What Is the Metaverse?

A metaverse is an endless online virtual environment that encompasses a wide range of Internet functions. In the future, the term is often described as a hypothetical repetition of the Internet as a virtual world facilitated by the use of virtual and augmented reality headsets.

Metaverse will create a digital environment where individuals can do whatever they want in the real world while removing boundaries. Activities like digital land ownership, attending meetings at work, partying in concerts, hanging out with friends, and even planning trips will be possible. You can quickly move into a virtual environment, such as your home, office, retail mall, amusement park and much more. In some versions of Metaverse, this can be done after a VR headset.

Metaverse is part of the larger Web 3.0 – the next generation of the Internet where information will be processed in a smart, human-like manner and users will be more engaged than ever before. Metaverse will provide a 3D environment where you can move around in your virtual nature and interact with other virtual avatars; Virtual economy facilitates virtual product business, community building, working and game play.

    Who Owns the Metaverse?

Metavers can be hosted on a decentralized network or centralized server. In popular blockchain-based metavores such as The Sandbox and Decentland, users can buy digital real estate at Metavars, which effectively means they own that part of the metavars. However, what Meta and Microsoft are creating for Metavers is owned by these corporations. For example, VR Metavers – Horizon Worlds which is launching Meta. This makes it a centralized entity, much like the apps in the Facebook suite that we use today.

If you want to get involved with technology, you need to invest in Metaverse’s architecture, development and services. But as it stands, most of the metavers are still in the early stages. A popular metaverse, including Sandbox, Digital Land, and Play-to-Arm games, recently launched its Alpha Phase. Meta has launched its Metaverse app Horizon Worlds for users in the United States and Canada.

How Are Meta and Microsoft Approaching Metaverse?

According to both Microsoft and Meta, users will be able to create digital replicas of themselves (also known as avatars) that can wander freely throughout virtual worlds. Workers can attend meetings, have casual conversations with coworkers, or visit “digital twins” of real-world businesses and factories.

Meta is in the lead as far as VR devices are concerned. Technology from the Oculus, which Meta acquired for $2 billion in 2014, allowed them to launch their Horizon Worlds ahead of the competition. Horizon promotes itself as a collaborative VR world where creators can build their own vision and see it come to life in the virtual world. On Aug. 27, 2020, Horizon Worlds launched a beta, invite-only version of the app to select users.

More recently, on Dec. 9, 2021, they launched Horizon Worlds to all users in the U.S. and Canada who are above 18. There are thousands of worlds built by creators to explore — from a retro arcade, a town with magic brooms, to a riverboat ride. They also announced a $10 million creator fund to boost the development of more VR worlds and social spaces. Besides this fund, Meta said they would spend $10 billion in 2022 to develop tools for building the metaverse.

However, Microsoft’s metaverse concept is headed in a slightly different direction. Instead of VR, they are using a mixed-reality approach. With its HoloLens 2 and “holoportation,” users can project a life-like hologram of themselves or an avatar to interact as if they are physically there. While this sounds very sci-fi, they are also implementing the Mesh app on normal VR headsets and hardware that are currently more utilized, such as tablets, mobile phones, or PCs. While Meta’s Horizon Worlds appears to be bringing social spaces to VR, Microsoft is focusing more on collaborative, work-related tools.

Microsoft plans to roll out Mesh for Microsoft Teams in 2022, an immersive workplace on the metaverse where employees’ avatars can collaborate and join virtual meetings. Accenture, which worked with Microsoft to build out Mesh products, has onboard tens of thousands of new hires on Mesh after the pandemic hit. They even have two digital workplaces — One Accenture Park and a digital replica of its One Manhattan West office in New York.

    Data Privacy in the Metaverse

The biggest issue in the debate is privacy. One could argue that Microsoft is considered better at guaranteeing data privacy, especially after lawsuits and hearings against Facebook. Therefore, it will be fairly easy to convince users that their data will be secure.

Meta, on the other hand, reiterated its commitment to data privacy in Metaverse, noting that it would reduce data collection activities to protect users and their data, and give people transparency and control over their data, leaving most future users distrustful. . However, previous breaches of data stories are enough to leave users with a heavy dose of suspicion. In terms of privacy, it ranks 21st among the top 35 technology giants. Despite the big data breach, the app’s Facebook ecosystem has always been desirable to its customers – with 1.93 billion daily active users.

    Who Will Win the Race?

Meta’s vision is even more consistent with the future world we see in science fiction, in which people spend most of their time in the virtual world. Although this trend may be accelerated by the epidemic, will it continue as the world (finally) opens?

Microsoft has long been a powerful enterprise player, and its collaboration and productivity solutions are still the most popular in the office. Adding more immersive collaboration features to their current model is soon understood, especially since many people are currently in remote work or hybrid systems in the ongoing epidemic.

However, with the advent of technology, one can only guess who will be the ultimate winner. In 2011, smartphone adoption in the United States was 35%, according to Pew Research. Now, 10 years later, it is at 85%. Will it be the same for VR and mixed-reality headsets? Only time will tell.
