A beggar who helped others is set to receive bigger help from PM

Dhaka, Aug 15 (UNB) – The Sherpur beggar, who has earned praise for providing his savings for helping Covid-19-hit people, has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister and is going to receive a modern house as a gift from her on Sunday.

Keeping the sense of serving humanity above everything, the poor man, Nazimuddin, 80, donated Tk 10,000, saved for over two years seeking alms to build a new house in Jhenaigati upazila, to the UNO’s relief fund on April 21 last.

This exemplary and heartening instance touched the heart of the Prime Minister and prompted her to direct the authorities concerned to build a modern house with her personal fund for the poor man.

BGMEA chief urges workers not to be misguided by rumours

Dhaka, Dec 15 (UNB) – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Siddiqur Rahman on Saturday called upon the garment workers not to be misguided by the rumours spread by conspirators.

He also requested them to return to their respective workplaces at a press conference arranged by the organization on current labour situation of the RMG industry at BGMEA Bhaban in the city.

Mentioning that some factories in Ashulia and Gazipur areas were closed as the workforce refrained themselves from working for the fifth consecutive day Saturday.

Siddikur Rahman said a vested quarter has been provoking the RMG workers on their wage issue to unsettle the industry centering the imminent parliamentary election.

Forty-five years on: Bangabandhu’s five killers still at large

The government is exploring “all the avenues” to bring back five fugitive convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to execute the court verdict as the nation is set to observe National Mourning Day on Saturday.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen reiterated that the government is working to bring back the convicted killers of Bangabandhu, at least one more in this Mujib Barsho, to implement the court verdict.

“It’s our hope,” he said adding that one of the killers — former captain Abdul Majed –was executed recently.

42 more deaths, 2,995 positive cases reported in Bangladesh

Forty-two more coronavirus patients died in Bangladesh in last 24 hours, raising the total fatality number to 3,513.
Besides, infection cases reached 2,68,498 with 2,995 more virus patients.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the figure through a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
Of the dead patients, 33 were male and nine were female.
