Flood situation worsens further as water level in Ganges basin continues to rise

Water level in many of the rivers in the Ganges basin has been increasing continuously for the last few days due to onrush of water from upper catchment caused by heavy rain, worsening the flood situation in the region further.

Of the total 30 river points being monitored in Ganges basin regularly, water levels increased at 15 stations, while decreased at 13 stations and remained stable at two points at 9 am today worsening the flood situation in the char (river bed) and other low-lying areas.

But the rivers were flowing below danger level at 22 points, while above danger mark at seven points this morning……

Covid-19: 35 die, 3,009 infected, 2,878 recover in 24 hours

Thirty-five people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said during a briefing today.

With this the death toll due to Covid-19 in the country has reached 3,035 and the death rate now stands at 1.31 percent.

Three thousand and nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

5 including inspector injured from explosion at Pallabi Police Station

Four police personnel and a staff of Pallabi Police Station were injured after a ‘weight machine’ that they seized during a drive exploded inside the police station this morning, police said.

The injured are: Inspector (Operations) Imranul Islam (48), Sub-Inspectors Sajib Khan (30), Angkush Kumar (28) and Rumi Tabres Haider (28) and a police station staffer Mohammad Riaj (28).

Covid-19 patients may loss immunity in months: UK study

Covid-19 patients, who have recovered, could lose their immunity to the disease within months and that the virus could reinfect people year after year, like common colds, scientists say.

The study examined more than 90 patients and healthcare workers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation trust and found levels of antibodies that can destroy the virus peaked about three weeks after the onset of symptoms then swiftly declined, reports The Guardian.

Besides, 60 percent of people marshalled a “potent” antibody response at the height of their battle with the virus, said the study after …….

Physician burned in fire from hand sanitiser dies

A young physician who along with his doctor wife received serious burn injuries in a fire that originated after a cigarette came in contact with hand sanitiser at their residence in the capital’s Hatirpool area died on Tuesday morning.

Dr Rajib Bhattacharya, 36, a neurosurgeon at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, succumbed to the burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Dr Rajib and his wife Dr Anusua Bhattacharya, 32, a physician of a hospital at Shyamoli, suffered burn injuries in the………..
