Fire aboard Sylhet-bound Kalni Express intercity train

Fake mask case Sharmin remanded for 3 days

Former BCL leader Sharmin Jahan, owner of Aparajita International, arrested on charges of supplying fake and substandard masks, has been remanded in custody for three days.
The Detective Branch (DB) produced him in court at 1:15 pm on Saturday and sought a three-day remand.

At the end of the hearing, said the Metropolitan Magistrate. Moinul Islam granted a three-day remand.
Earlier, Sharmin Jahan was arrested from Shahbagh area of ​​the capital at 10:30 pm on Friday. He was taken to the DB office soon after his arrest.
Sharmin Jahan was the President of Bangladesh Kuwait Friendship Hall Chhatra League of Dhaka University. He is currently the Assistant Registrar of Administration-1 Branch of the University.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University authorities filed a case against Sharmin Jahan last Thursday night for supplying fake and substandard masks. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kanak Kanti Barua University Proctor Professor. Syed Mozaffar Ahmed filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.

The statement of case also sought legal action against Sharmin Jahan, the owner of Aparajita International, with maximum disciplinary action.
The statement said that the government-approved Dysin International Limited had issued a work order to supply the mask to Sharmin Jahan, the owner of Aparajita International, following due process as the sample mask submitted by Aparajita International was relatively good.

It then supplied 1300, 480, 1000 and 600 pieces of masks on 4 dates and 4 lots respectively. No defects were observed in the total 160 masks paid in the first and second lots.

However, errors were observed in the 1000 and 600 piece masks payable in the third and fourth lots. The ribbon of the mask was torn, and the printed text of the mask contained faulty English text.

In addition, various other errors have been observed. The quality of the mask proved to be inferior to the university authorities. The university authorities have issued a show cause notice to Sharmin Jahan, the proprietor of Aparajita International, on July 16, as the lives of the Covid-19 front-runners are in grave danger.

In response, Sharmin Jahan expressed regret, which is tantamount to admitting guilt. Therefore, the university authorities have filed a statement against him requesting legal action with maximum disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kanak Kanti Barua said that what was said by Aparajita International in the notice was not acceptable at all.

There is no compromise on the safety of the front line fighters in the Corona epidemic. The university authorities will take all possible measures, including legal action, against those involved in this heinous act.

In addition to filing the case, a three-member investigation committee has already been formed and it has been directed to submit the investigation report within three working days.

On the other hand, the director (hospital) Brigadier General. Zulfiqar Ahmed Amin said that 3460 masks have been accepted in 4 lots.

Of these, 959 faulty masks have been returned. As a result, the number of masks received from Aparajita International is 2501. Its financial value as 630 rupees is 18 lakh 25 thousand 630 rupees.
